Yes, the UAW is part of the problem, but an equal or maybe larger issue is the regulation by state and federal government. EPA, OSHA, etc simply do not allow for efficient manufacturing.
Get government out of carmaking and watch Detroit thrive.

One of the big reasons I posted it was that fact that when people discuss "Lean" operating or efficiency in manufacturing, Toyota (rightfully so) gets mentioned and then a few other companies. Ford, for sure, isn't on any list I've ever seen or heard. But, there it is on video, Ford running a pretty lean and smart looking operation. Is it perfect? Doubt it. Is it Toyota level? I don't know, maybe it exceeds it.
It is sad, they cannot bring that to the US.
