While happy for him, it was with a bit of sadness that I saw our Snap On man retire recently. The new salesman came by today to introduce himself. A very personable guy and an ex-shop owner from years gone by. He remarked to me how all of my techs appeared to be first-class. He then asked, “How much does a first-class tech cost these days?” I had to answer, “Great techs don’t cost a thing, they are each a large profit center.

At first he seemed a bit surprised and then laughed. I guess you’re right, if I had realized that much earlier, I might still be a shop owner.
