I have never been a big fan of government regulation. I realize some is necessary and even beneficial. I also tend to resent many of the broad-brush programs, especially when I am required to fund them. That said, I also try to admit when I am wrong and this is such a case.
When I built my present building I was required to install handicap accessible hardware on all doors. The knobs were a bit pricey and even looked a bit strange.
Looking back, I must admit the knobs have been quite handy. Several times a day I walk from the parts room into the office or into the shop carrying parts. A simple bump from a full hand and the door is open. It would be considerably more difficult to open the same door, with a conventional round knob and full hands. If you have the need, you might give these a try. They have certainly made life considerably easier in our case.

We have this style door handles and like them a lot. The only issue that we have had is on the lockable outside doors handles. Some times when a person walks out they brush the lock knob and lock the door. The knob does not have to turn just be pushed in.
