I have noticed that most people I meet seem to be waiting for something. Some are waiting till the end of the day when they get off. Others the weekend, still others their next vacation. Some are waiting until they “get the money” to make a change, other until “they get the time.” Many are waiting until they retire and so on.
The point I would like to make is, if time has shown us anything, it has shown that now is all we truly have. As wise men have written, “Tomorrow is not promised.” Planning for the future is great, but we must live in the present. We must also take action in the present to accomplish the future we desire.
Every person has ideas, but far fewer turn those ideas into accomplishments. I believe the difference is, those that do, take action while those that don’t continue to wait until tomorrow. This is a very human characteristic and one I believe that springs from fear. Possibly not fear as in being frightened, perhaps fear of failure or ridicule.
Our ideas are very personal and as long as they remain, only our ideas, they remain perfect. Clearly when we implement our ideas there are always complications, hurdles to over come and work. Yet until we implement our ideas, they will remain only ideas.
As Deming wisely listed in point fourteen; Take action to accomplish the transformation. Nothing changes until we take action. Want a better future? It begins now.
